Kirstin Bailey, PhD

CLINICAL :


Dr. Bailey is a licensed psychologist who provides clinical services through the Civitan International Research Center, Sparks Clinics, at UAB. Sparks Clinics is a center for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Bailey provides diagnostic assessments through the Autisc, Infant and Toddler Clinic, and Newborn Follow-Up Clinic. In addition, she provides individual and family based therapy to children and their parents. Dr. Bailey has a primary interest in working with individuals with Autism Specm Clinic, Child Development Clinic, Multiple Disabilities Clinitrum Disorders, and develops and implements intervention programs based primarily on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. She also provides parent training to children with behavioral challenges. She supervises graduate students in UAB’s Medical Psychology and Developmental Psychology programs, and Clinical Interns from UAB’s Psychology Training Consortium.


RESEACH PROGRAM:


The primary focus of Dr. Bailey’s research is on the social development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders who have participated in intensive intervention services. Research has explored the socio-emotional development of children with autism who have completed treatment and have achieved “normal functioning” in terms of intellectual and adaptive abilities. Dr. Bailey is interested in exploring the subtle differences in social abilities (e.g., Theory of Mind) that may remain following intensive treatment.

Dr. Bailey has also participated in research exploring children’s impression formation and the impact of peer acceptance, neglect, and rejection on a child’s functioning.
